Ledgar Nano S Plus introduction
Nano S Plus is the new hardware wallet from the brand Ledger. As the name suggests, this is the successor to the Ledger Nano S. The Nano S Plus has a number of improvements that the community has asked for.
The large screen is a nice touch, but the improved memory is a big plus. It allows you to install more coin apps and other apps on your wallet at the same time. This is something that the original Nano S could not do and that many users had problems with.
What can you do with the Ledger Nano S Plus?
Tezos, Tron, Cosmos, Algorand and Polkadot are coins that you can strike from the Ledger Live application. Other coins such as Cardano can be struck in combination with a third party.
The Ledgers are known for the many coins and tokens they can store. This is no different for the Nano S Plus. Many more than 1000 crypto coins and tokens can be safely stored with a Nano S Plus. These include Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Cardano, and Avalanche as well as ERC20 and BEP20 tokens.

Ledger Nano S Plus design
let’s start with the pros. The Nano S Plus, reminiscent of a USB stick, has a fit-into-the-palm-of-your-hand footprint . allowing it to fit into small pockets and other tiny compartments inside your favorite laptop bag.
The Nano S Plus sports an onyx rectangular prism that features a 128 x 64-pixel display. This panel, by the way, is noticeably larger than its predecessor’s screen. On top of the prism are two buttons that help users navigate the hardware wallet’s OS.
Now here’s where things get bizarre. Nano S Plus has a brushed stainless steel case that can be swiveled around to hide the USB-C port . it has a hole that tacitly encourages users to attach the Nano S Plus to keychains and other objects.
The Nano S Plus shouldn’t be out in the open on keychains nor swinging off bookbags . it should be kept in a safe, a locked drawer or wherever you prefer to stash your treasures.
Unlike the Nano S, which comes in a variety of colors (i.e. Matte Black, Saffron Yellow, Flamingo Pink, Jade Green, Lagoon Blue and Transparent), the Nano S Plus only comes in black (with a silver case) — a plus for heightened discreteness.

What is a Hardware Wallet, and Why Choose a Ledger?
1. Why a hardware wallet in the first ?
When you own crypto, what you really own is a private key that gives you access to your coins. You need to keep this key completely safe.
2. What is a hardware wallet?
Hardware wallets place access to your private keys (and therefore crypto) offline, which means hackers can’t get to it – even when your device is connected to your computer
3. How is your crypto safer with Ledger?
Crypto “ownership” is not about the location of the coins, but access control. With Ledger, nobody can access your coins but you (not even us).
4. Industry-leading security
Nanos are the only hardware wallets that combine independent, third-party certification (ANSSI) with a proprietary operating system (BOLOS).
Ledger Nano S Plus Begenning
On the sidelines of the Ledger Open conference, which was held on December 9, 2021 in Paris, France, the CEO of Ledger company “Pascal Gauthier” introduced the new product of this company .the Ledger Nano S Plus hardware wallet.
Obviously this product was an advanced version of the Ledger Nano S wallet . the main purpose of producing was to eliminate the problems and limitations of the Ledger Nano S . Also the full price of the product should be reasonable compared to the Ledger Nano X wallet.
The Design Of Genesis Edition
What’s in the Nano Ledger box ?
The brand new Ledger comes in a matte black box with a silver silver sleeve. Opening it, you will find:
- The Ledger Nano S Plus hardware
- A USB cable to connect the Ledger to the computer (USB on one end, Type-C on the other)
- A bright orange box with three notepads for the Secret Recovery Phrase (also known as seed phrase)
- A pastel purple box with the manual instructions
- A key-holder chain with a Ledger logo
The hardware wallet looks like a fancy, elegant thumb drive covered by a signature polished metal wing. The matte, rounded shell sports a small, monochrome screen of 128 x 64 pixels . which is perfectly large enough for the job.
The device has two buttons on the side for navigation. They are easy to use and accurate but . On its top, you find the Type-C plug to connect the wallet to the computer.
The USB cable that comes within the box stays firm in the device, and the textile, shoelace-like cover keeps the cord untangled.
Overall, you will love the no-frills, less-is-more design. you can see how keeping it simple would help beginners . and first-time owners avoid any confusion when navigating the wallet and its buttons.
USB Type C cable
The provided USB Type C cable is a great idea . Since Nano S Plus doesn’t have Bluetooth capability, it means you will need a cable whenever you use the device.
That said, it is included in the box and the price is very reasonable. It’s definitely nice to have one included in case . you don’t already have a type C lying around since it allows you to get started immediately. So I guess I can’t complain much.
I do, however, recommend picking up a longer type C cable at some point.
Inside the purple info packet, you will find the Quick start guide which is useful for quickly setting up your device. We will cover that below as well in much more detail if you’d prefer that instead.
There is also a nice set of Ledger stickers if that interests you.
Additionally there is a Ledger Live info slip and a regulatory statement which are pretty worthless. Feel free to discard them as the regulatory statement is merely there for legal reasons that don’t apply to you and the Ledger Live info slip contains no important info.
Ledger Nano S Plus Handling
The Ledger Nano S Plus can be used in everyday life via a PC with the Ledger Live app or via a smartphone. However, the connection is only made via cable . as the hardware wallet does not have Bluetooth connectivity in comparison to the Ledger Nano X.
The Ledger hardware wallet securely stores the private keys and allows you to access your Kryptowährungen. The corresponding apps on the Ledger Nano S Plus are required for this access. These can be installed via Ledger Live . for example, the Bitcoin app can be installed to manage Bitcoin accounts.
There is room for about 100 apps on the Ledger Nano S Plus. However, apps can be uninstalled and reinstalled at any time if necessary. The private keys remain secure on the device and backed up on the recovery slip.
Once the appropriate app for the cryptocurrency is installed, accounts can be added. In this regard, most cryptocurrencies are integrated with Ledger Live, while others rely on third-party applications. The supported wallets of a cryptocurrency can be found in this list: Supported Crypto Assets
Ledger Nano S Plus security
So you may be wondering, “Why should I get a hardware wallet as opposed to keeping my crypto in an online wallet? What makes it safer?” What you will love about the Nano S Plus will be that it keeps your recovery phrase — the key to your crypto — offline.
Unlike hardware wallets, Metamask digitally stores your seed phrase online. Sure, it’s encrypted, but who knows? What if a highly skilled, seasoned hacker figures out how to breach the Chrome extension . uncovers your seed phrase and snatches all of your crypto? You’ll never get it back!
However, with the Nano S Plus, thieves would have to break down your door and physically get their hands on your recovery phrase (which you’ve hopefully placed inside a locked safe) before they can steal your digital assets.
Using the Nano S Plus to circumvent malware
One applaudable Nano S Plus security feature is that it compels you to double-check your “receive addresses”. For example, if you want to send Dogecoin from your Coinbase Wallet to Nano S Plus . you have to get the receive address from Ledger Live . so that Coinbase Wallet can “inform” the blockchain where it should send your DOGE.
Ledger Live will pull up the receive address for Dogecoin on your desktop . allowing you to copy it. It will also ask you to double-check the receive address by displaying it on your Nano S Plus’ screen, too. If they match, you can click “Accept” on the hardware wallet and carry on.
there’s a frightening malware called Clipper. This hair-raising, malicious software can “recognize” crypto wallet addresses and automatically switch them with the hacker’s own addresses. As a result, you may think you copied and pasted your wallet address, but as it turns out, you’ve inputted the hacker’s wallet address. Once you hit “Send,” You’ve been tricked into sending your own funds to a cybercriminal’s lair.
As such, you will appreciate Ledger Live asking users to double-check . whether the receiving address on the desktop UI matches what’s displayed on the hardware wallet’s panel. It’s a process that keeps you vigilant . you’re more likely to spot an unfamiliar, foreign wallet address because you’ll be conditioned to remain hawk-eyed for funny business.
How the Nano S Plus saves you from yourself
You are more likely to sabotage your own digital assets — not a hacker. Consider this scenario . Let’s say you’re at work and decide to check on how well the market is doing. Your jaw drops as Bitcoin’s value sinks, and you’re tempted to sell in a moment of panic . but you can’t. Your Nano S Plus is at home, sitting pretty in a safe. Ha!
Hardware wallets are purposely inconvenient to use for day trading . which makes them appealing to investors who need long-term storage . and don’t want to self-sabotage, especially if they’re prone to emotionally charged decision making.
NFTs and the Ledger Nano S Plus
Ledger is a great device for keeping those apes, goblins, and JPEGs of rocks safe . One of the latest versions of Ledger Live made it easy for users to manage their NFT collections .
All that users need to do is have the app for the NFT network added . when an account is opened, they will have their NFTs displayed directly in Ledger Live.
To get started with Ledger NFTs, users will need to follow these steps:
- Ensure the latest version of the Ethereum (ETH)/Polygon (MATIC) apps are installed on the Ledger device.
- Ensure Blind Signing is enabled in the ETH/MATIC app .
- Ensure the Ledger is running the latest firmware version and Ledger Live version 2.40 or above.
Once those steps are complete, users are free to send, receive, and manage their ERC721 and ERC1155 standard NFTs.
Ledger Nano S Plus VS Nano X
The Nano X and Nano S Plus both feature a hard drive that can hold up to 100 different crypto wallets.
They also feature the same 128 x 64px screen.
When it comes to the body of the the Nano S Plus, it shares a similarly sleek build to the Nano X, but with a matte finish instead of Nano X’s glossy finish.
Another point of difference is the layout of the buttons. On the Nano X, big round buttons sit on either side of the screen. Whereas the Nano S Plus places the buttons on top of the unit, and they are much smaller (similar to the Nano S).
That means navigating the Nano S Plus offers a less premium feel than the Nano X.
Both units offer a USB-C connection type.
Perhaps the biggest difference between the two units is Bluetooth support. Nano X has it. Nano S Plus doesn’t. So if having wireless wallet management is important to you, go ahead and buy that Nano X now. The Nano S Plus is not the wallet you are looking for.
The other big difference is the Nano X’s 8 hour batter. The Nano S Plus has not battery at all . so don’t expect to be using it on the go . unless you have some way to connect it to your android phone.
Ledger Nano S Plus VS Nano S
The Nano S Plus offers a much larger hard drive than the Nano S, which can only hold 3 crypto wallets at a time.
If you are just holding, say, Bitcoin and Ethereum, then that won’t matter to you, but its worth considering if you plan on acquiring more coins. The Nano S Plus can hold over 100 wallets at a time.
The screen resolution is another big difference. The Nano S Plus features a 128 x 64px screen resolution . whereas the old Nano S only gives you a 128 x 32px screen resolution.
Finally, the Nano S Plus features a USB-C type connection, which feels nicer than the Nano S’s micro-USB connection type.
Now, lets talk similarities between the Nano S and the S+.
First, neither devices support Bluetooth connectivity or internal battery. This means you must have the Nano S Plus physically connected to a powered device in order to use the wallet at all.
Similarly, both devices feature small navigation buttons on top of the unit, instead of the big buttons on either side of the screen, like the Nano X has.
Finally, they both feature a matte finish, as opposed to the Nano X’s glossy finish. One point of difference between the build is the the small lip on the edge of the S+ and the rounded edge of the chassis. The Nano S has no lip and a completely square body.
Similarities Between All Nano Products
All of the wallets feature the following:
- Certified Secure Element (CC EAL5+)
- Independently ANSSI Certification
- PIN Code Support
- 24-word recovery Phrase support
- Compatibility with 50+ third-party wallets
- Native Ledger live support for over 5,500 cryptos
Ledger Nano S Plus mobile app usage
The Ledger Nano S Plus can be used with a PC, Mac, or Linux with the Ledger Live app . also with an Android smartphone for convenience. IOS is not currently supported. Note that this device can only be used while plugged in . unlike the Ledger Nano X which has a battery and Bluetooth connectivity.
Quick note on Bluetooth-enabled hardware wallets and why they concern many crypto holders. The whole point of a hardware wallet is that it is offline without any wireless connectivity.
Many of the most secure wallets are “air-gapped,” meaning they have no WiFi, NFC, cellular, or Bluetooth access . meaning they cannot be accessed externally at all. Many consider Bluetooth connectivity to be a security concern as it could be an exploitable port . Though there have not been any known cases of this (yet), and it may not even be possible .
The Ledger Live mobile app can be synced to the desktop version by scanning the QR code. On the computer, simply go into Settings > Account > Export, and the QR code will be displayed. Scan this QR code with your mobile phone and in seconds the portfolio is synced across computer and phone.
Ledger Live mobile app
The Ledger Live mobile app has the same features and functionality as the desktop version and works quite seamlessly. Impressively, the Ledger Live app has a perfect 5-star rating on Google Play . on over 10k reviews, so it’s safe to say there is fantastic mobile experience.
Be sure to use the download link for the Ledger Live mobile app directly from the website . never search for any crypto apps directly from within an app store. There have been multiple scam apps advertised in app stores that are identical to the originals . complete with fake reviews and ratings that have resulted in lost funds once customers downloaded them.
Ledger Nano S Plus Customer review
Buying Crypto with the Nano S Plus
Through the Ledger Live app, users can buy crypto . via debit or credit card easily and conveniently through Ledger’s third-party payment partners Coinify, Wyre and MoonPay.
Buying crypto directly within Ledger Live has some advantages :
- Everything in one place- After purchasing crypto, the funds automatically appear on your device. No need for multiple crypto exchanges and accounts across different platforms.
- High security- No concerns about scam brokers or shady crypto companies.
- Fast and easy-Can be done in just a few clicks.
Ledger Live also supports crypto swaps so you can ditch some of those coins for other assets .
This is also done through third-party service providers such as Changelly, Wyre, Paraswap and the 1inch DEX.
Again, KYC will be needed to use the service providers . unless you want to use the 1inch DApp which can be found in the Ledger Live Apps Catalogue. you will be liking the DeFi integration with 1inch as it provides a truly trustless and permissionless way to interact with crypto . all with the security of a hardware wallet.
Combining DeFi with the security of hardware wallets is a crypto future that many might dream of.
Ledger Nano S Plus Supported Cryptocurrencies
The Ledger Nano S Plus supports over 5,500+ cryptocurrencies . including the majors like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Cardano, Avalanche, Polkadot and more. The Nano S Plus can have up to 100 apps installed . meaning that users can hold approximately 100 different crypto assets from 100 different chains/networks.
One thing that is important to note is that some assets are “supported” only through third-party apps like MetaMask or MyEtherWallet and not supported directly within Ledger Live. To find out if your favourite assets are supported natively, be sure to check the Ledger Asset Support page and search for the crypto assets you are interested in.
So, for whom is the Ledger Nano S Plus intended?
The Nano S Plus is ideal for people who have already made their first steps in crypto . also they are thinking about holding (or HODLing) digital assets as a long-term investment . Especially want to take full control over the ownership of their digital assets.
For those who are just starting in crypto, beginning with a hardware wallet is perhaps too big of a step . unless, of course, you’re investing large sums of money and need the additional security that comes with collet wallet storage.
As mentioned, the world of cryptocurrency hardware wallets is very competitive. For this reasons, whenever a new wallet is introduced, this space changes.
Above all Nano S Plus is one of the most innovative and feature-rich new hardware wallets on the market. It can help you securely manage most digital assets both cryptos and NFTs at a competitive price point.
One of the most important things to consider when choosing a wallet, apart from the features of the wallet itself . is the manufacturer and its vision. If a company’s only goal is money, this goal will quickly show in the design and security features of its wallet.
Also keep in mind that CoolWallet S wallet company is constantly updating its list of supported currencies.
